We plan it, build it and keep it looking the way it should.

J. Ratto Landscaping is a family owned and operated company that has served Long Island since 1983. We began with landscape design and the planting of trees, shrubs and ornamental greenery, and grew into a full-service company for design, construction and maintenance.

Most of our clients come to us by word of mouth and keep working with us because of the attention we give to service.

  1. DesignOne comprehensive plan for the whole property, and oversight of every phase that follows.
  2. ConstructionPatios, walls, water, garden structures, planting, sprinklers and lighting.
  3. MaintenanceLawn, tree and bed care through the season, with spring and fall cleanups.

One plan for the whole property

A great landscape starts with the right plan.

Before we draw, we look at what the property gives us: the soil, where the sun falls and where shade stays, and whether the ground runs dry or wet. Then we bring the stonework, water, structures, planting and lighting you want into a single, comprehensive plan.

Design is just the beginning. Once your plan is final, we oversee and manage every phase of the project, from installation and construction through service and maintenance.

Patios, walks and walls

Brick, natural stone and pavers, set out to suit the house and the planting around them. We build patios, walkways, garden and seat walls, fire pits and Belgium block edging.

We are an authorized Cambridge installer, an authorized Unilock installer, a Techo-Pro contractor and a CMHA certified installer.

Cabanas, gazebos, decks and built-in BBQs

Outdoor rooms get used when they are planned with the rest of the landscape. We design and build decks, gazebos and cabanas, and outdoor kitchens with built-in BBQ units, placed for the way you like to spend time outside.

Waterfalls, ponds and pools

Water feels natural when stone and planting are designed around it. We build waterfalls, pondscapes and streams, and the stonework and planting that settle a pool into the garden.

Sprinklers and landscape lighting

In-ground sprinkler systems keep lawns and new planting watered, and landscape lighting brings paths, steps and trees into the evening. Where this work falls outside our Home Improvement License, a licensed and insured subcontractor carries it out.

Planting is where we started

We began in 1983 with design and the planting of trees, shrubs and ornamental greenery. We select premium plants from well-established Long Island growers, and our staff learn the planting specifics of the varieties we use: soil preference, sun or shade, dry or wet conditions.

From flower beds to shrubbery and mature trees, each planting is chosen to suit the whole landscape and give it interest through the year.

Maintenance through every season

Whether we designed and built your landscape or you are bringing us an existing property, we keep every part of it looking the way it should.
